USERL Equine Cruelty Investigator Course for Animal Control/Law Enforcement a great success!
USERL's Annual Equine Cruelty Investigator Course was focused on Animal Control/Law Enforcement this year. The course was a 3 day event with daily hands-on labs with horses and classroom instruction on horse husbandry and investigation techniques. The class learned about nutrition, body scoring, determining age, horse behavior, investigation techniques, anatomy, equine vital signs, common health issues with neglected horses and more!
USERL wishes to thank its USERL Investigators and the volunteers that assisted with horse handling, transporting, etc. And a wonderful thank you to the following instructors for their time and effort which will arm our NC Animal Control Officers and Law Enforcement with the knowledge needed to educate against equine neglect/abuse:
Dr. Elaine Dziuban, DVM (Nutrition & Common Health Issues with Neglected Horses)
Samantha Hartford (NCSU - College of Veterinary Medicine, Director of Continuing Education; Equine Anatomy Tour)
Lawson Ralston (NCSU - Equine Educational Unit; Basic Horse Handling Part I)
Jeff Holzer (of Respect & Response; Horse Handling Part II)
And a special thank you to the NCSU Equine Educational Unit and NCSU - College of Veterinary Medicine for use of their facilities for the training.
