North Carolina's Equine Cruelty Investigator Course for Animal Control/Law Enforcement and Equine Cruelty Investigator a great success!
USERL's NC Equine Cruelty Training Course this year was over full capacity with 18 students (limit is set at 15 for hands-on labs) from 10 different counties. Most students were current animal control officers and law enforcement, with a few current county appointed cruelty officers.
Students learned techniques in:
safely handling horses
body condition scoring
vital signs and how to interpret them
basic aging techniques for life stage of a horse
basic components of nutrition as it relates to education of horse owners under investigation
common disorders of neglected horses
criminal/civil law as it pertains to equine cruelty cases
case photography tips
and more!
Instructors gave fundamental components of equine cruelty investigation and experienced advice on cases of horse neglect so that students could better relate the information they learned to the horse owners they will face in the field. Thus giving students a better chance of successfully educating owners, as well as prosecution of an intentional neglect case when the horses remain in danger.
Due to the popularity of this class, next year's course date will be set soon. Check NC Course page for the date!
