Available Horses located in North Carolina
The horses listed below are located throughout North Carolina. Horses can be adopted out of state, but visits to the horse are required in the adoption process. Horses are also available in Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky and Iowa.
USERL requires that all adopted horses be checked on a yearly basis. If the adopter does not live within a reasonable driving distance of a USERL volunteer capable of doing the check, it is the responsibility of the adopter to arrange for the check to be done by a licensed veterinarian that will fill out a report to be mailed to USERL.
To learn more about USERL adoption, go to our Adoption page for Q&A regarding our requirements for adoption.
Fill out an Online Adoption Application if you are interested in adopting a horse. Please allow up to 7 days for your application to be processed and for someone to get in contact with you. If you do not get a response in 7 days, please contact USERL directly (800-650-8549).

Companion Horses:
Most of these horses can no longer be ridden due to mild health issues, while some may be used for light riding or lead line. They all, however, would be wonderful companions to your lonely horse or as a gentle horse for someone to groom and love as a pet.
