Horses on uninhabited property surrendered

(May 2007) - In early May, three thoroughbred horses were surrendered to Northumberland County Virginia's Animal Control and subsequently turned over to USERL.  Animal Control called a USERL volunteer to assess the condition of the horses in early May, after receiving reports of three thin horses on an uninhabited piece of property.  The condition of the horses was found to be less than adequate and the so the owners were advised of their responsibilities and given said number of days to comply.  When the owners did not comply with county ordinances, and the condition of all three horses continued to deteriorate, the owners were cited with a charge of improper care.  The horses were then surrendered to USERL. At this time, all three horses are showing improvement and will be on the USERL website for adoption once their condition is optimal, and they are ready to go to a permanent home.
