Four horses surrendered in Yadkin, Co., NC

(February 3, 2007)--USERL was contacted early Monday morning, January 30, 2007, by the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Department concerning a horse neglect case.  One horse had been found dead on the property and there were three to four other horses about which the Sheriff was concerned.  Once again, within hours of the call, two USERL investigators were on their way to the location to body score the horses and assist the Sheriff’s Department with the investigation.

Since this is an ongoing investigation, details of the case cannot be released. USERL can report that four horses were surrendered to USERL.  When volunteers arrived to transport those horses into the loving arms of USERL, they found that one of the horses surrendered, an eight-month old colt, had be moved and hidden.  While the Sheriff’s department searched for the colt, severely stunted from lack of proper nutrition, USERL volunteers loaded up the remaining three horses to bring them home.

The colt was found and is heading to his new life – one in which he will be loved and cherished.  All four horses have a long road ahead of them until they are once again healthy, and the volunteers of USERL will see them through it!  Link to a Fox News report.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in this case and in helping these horses find their way to a better life.  All of you are the embodiment of our new motto – you truly have ‘The Power and the Passion to Provide Hope,’” expressed Jennifer Hack, Executive Director, USERL. “All four of these horses now have hope, which is something not afforded to them in their previous life.”
